# MOGAM Institute for Biomedical Research
 
> MOGAM Institute for Biomedical Research (MIBR) is Korea's first privately-funded non-profit biomedical research institute, established in 1984. The institute focuses on AI-driven drug discovery for rare diseases, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and cancers, operating under the principle "Smart AI for Smarter Drug Discovery."
 
MOGAM was founded by Dr. Young-sup Huh using proceeds from Korea's first hepatitis B vaccine, originally developed by Green Cross Pharmaceuticals (now GC Biopharma). The institute has historically contributed to Korea's biomedical industry through the development of the world's 3rd hepatitis B vaccine, the world's 1st hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) vaccine, and the world's 2nd varicella vaccine, as well as diagnostic kits and recombinant proteins. Today, MIBR concentrates on integrating artificial intelligence into novel drug discovery, with the broader goal of advancing global public health. The institute is headquartered in Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea, and operates as a non-profit research organization.
